Advertising Your Moving Sale To Get Results

Many people wait until spring or summer to relocate so expect to see lots of moving sales. If you will soon be moving, start planning your sale now. By catching people before they head out of town on summer vacation, your efforts will be most successful. Use print advertising to spread the word and build excitement.

Plan the sale for a weekend and check the weather forecast to find the best dates. The last thing you want is for rain to limit attendance and ruin the beautiful furnishings you are selling. Plan to start the sale during early morning hours and run through lunchtime, wrapping up before temperatures get too high.

Design custom posters for the event and hang these up around town about one month before the event. Choose a size large enough to be seen from a car and use enough color to capture attention. Include pictures of your finest items to spark interest of shoppers who need new furnishings for their home. If you will be selling new or handmade items, make special mention of this because these may attract a larger crowd.

Postcards make great follow-up notices and can be distributed door-to-door in local neighborhoods. Jumbo sized postcards are like miniature custom posters because they are large enough to fit photos and a list of items available for sale. Choose either 14 or 16 point card stock and have the cards covered with a high-gloss UV coating for protection and shine.

Include directions in this advertising so people can easily find your home. The night before the sale, post directional signs on nearby streets. Wake up early on sale day and plan for early birds because there usually will be a few. Your advertisements may be so successful that you sell out before the sale is scheduled to end!
